Success beyond expectation

I don't really know where to start with this one. I entered quite a few things in todays local district show. And....

I had to threaten a small child with unspeakable television rights denials to get this photo taken. You can't see him, but there's a 15 month old desperately trying to grab everything on the table!

First Prize: Health Loaf, pickled vegetables, beetroot, zucchini, stuffed doll (Minerva Louise), best pumpkin.
Second Prize: Plain butter cake, stuffed doll (plurbit), Strawberry Jam, brown onions.

I had to return to the showground this afternoon to collect my exhibits and discovered I was this year's recipient of the A&P Association's Joy Walkom Encouragement Award. It's a perpetual trophy - my name is engraved on a silver plate to be returned next year. I also received a lovely glass storage jar.

WOW! I can't really describe just how humbled I was to do so well. The lady who presented me with the special trophy was Joy Walkom's daughter. She told me (as I wiped away the tears of joy and utter surprise) that her mother had been involved in the homemade products section of the show her entire life, and nothing would have made her prouder to see someone who had made such an effort to keep these home skills alive.

So enough bragging. I'm really thrilled and I wanted to share it with you. Lisa x

Coming out of lurkdom (is that a word?) to say how much I enjoy your blog and you go right ahead and brag. It's so great to see people keeping these traditions alive and showing the world that there is value in domestic/home skills.

Congratulations

cheers Lenny

Hi Lisa,

Thats so awesome.

Must make all that effort just that much easier to contemplate for next year.

There are people that appreciate home made things sometimes it just takes a while to find them.
Kind Regards
Belinda

Maggie - he did eat a bit of stale butter cake (I got some from the inside where it hadn't been cut and it was ok). I think he had his eye on the glass canister and he did get a bit shirty about not being allowed to touch it. Lisa x
p.s. River & Patricia - thanks!

Congratulations Lisa. Sorry it's taken me a while to drop by and say so. I bookmarked this post in my feedreader to make sure I popped by and said congratulations.

Your lack of cheerful comments on my blog has been noticed. :( I hope you still have the time to at least read. :) Or have I somehow put you off?

P.S. Did you know I started a gardening blog???? I'll post this under my blogger account so you can find it if you're interested. It's a blogger blog.
